Eildon-Jamieson Road

The Eildon - Jamieson Road will be sealed by the end year, with the final sealing work to start today.

The road was diverted when Lake Eildon was built in 1956 and the 14-kilometre section from Big River on the Mansfield side has not been sealed.

Work to seal the road will cost $3.4 million and will create 35 jobs.

The Mansfield Council's tourism and economic development manager, Ian Geer, says the work will improve safety and attract tourists.

"It means now there is an alternative route that is fully sealed which makes for much safer driving conditions of course," he said.

"For the Eildon township end, it's means it's not longer at the end of the road, there's a fully sealed road that continues on from Eildon to circumnavigate Lake Eildon."

Mr Geer says the work will be finished by the end of the year.

"The first part of the works they'll be doing will be the preparation, upgrading culverts and drainage lines," he said.

"Then they'll start the preparatory work and then the actual sealing of the road will be completed by mid-December, certainly before Christmas."
