Teen gets supervision order over fatal boat crash
A 17-year-old boy who caused a boat crash on Lake Eildon, in which another teenager died, has been sentenced to a youth supervision order.
Casey Hardman, 18, was killed when the boat she was a passenger in struck a tree, in north-east Victoria, in December 2008.
The driver of the boat, a 17-year-old boy from Croydon, has pleaded guilty to reckless conduct endangering serious injury.
The County Court has heard the boy was driving in the dark and was using a spotlight to see, when the boat crashed into a tree protruding out of the water.
Ms Hardman was thrown overboard and died.
In sentencing, judge Julian Leckie said the boy's conduct has caused extraordinary suffering.
The teenager was convicted and placed on a 12 month youth supervision order.
