Lake Eildon has cooled down in water temperature and with that the trout are firing up. Flat line trolling of a morning and using paravanes during the middle of the day have been very successful for brown trout from 1 ½ to 2 ½ lb. Tassie devils once again are the way to go pink, gold sparkle and clown pattern have all worked well. The areas to target at the moment are the dam wall, Jerusalem creek, big river and Fraser camping ground.
Yellow belly are still showing interest in the black and chartreuse spinner baits, and Murray cod up to 80cm are taking yabbies around the marinas and dam wall.
Reddies are taking worms close to the trees but the motor oil soft plastics are doing well amongst the rockier out crops of the lake.
Eildon pondage has been doing exceptionally well over the Easter break with many anglers having success on a variety of power baits and in most areas, admittedly many of the rainbows were the smaller ones that were released last week but they did however stir up the quite a few of the larger 3to 5lbers as well. Small scrubbies worked in the river course of the pondage with a few nice browns being taken. the best time to fish baits in the pondage is when its finished being topped up , but while it is filling give the lures a shot.
The Goulburn River is doing well on scrubbies, small bladed spinners, and small hard bodied lures from Eildon to Alexandra.
The smaller streams have cleared and using similar techniques healthy but small rainbow and trout are also being taken.
Catch you next week
