Eildon Pondage has been doing well for small Rainbows, with the occasional 3-4lb brown and rainbow trout being caught as well. Power bait the local dough and Pink Tassie and cobra lures are what have been successful, however it has depended on whether the pondage is being topped up or not, the baits have been working when it has been still, and lures when its been filling.
Early in the week a nice Murray cod was caught on a stump jumper near the dam wall but the majority of reports I have been getting is that the lake is a little slow at the moment.
No doubt when the barometer starts to steady again things will fire up.
The smaller rivers such as the Steavenson, the Rubicon and the Acheron had been doing quite well earlier in the week on flies. In particular the nymph patterns were the winners, with one angler managing 12 nice trout in one session.
Finally big congratulations to the staff at Snobs creek fish hatchery, having a record year on breeding more the 549,000 Murray cod.
Catch you next week
