21/05/2017 Eildon Fishing report

Lake Eildon is still doing well for brown trout from 1-3lb with the occasional lager one being taken as well. Flat line trolling Tassie in pink clown and Xmas tree have all worked in the main arm and big river mouth this week.

Good size yellow belly and red fin are taking yabbies near Fraser camping ground and Italian bay, and small Murray cod are still being caught on soft plastics near the dam wall.

Large cod should still be around and if you’re going to chase these guys go for bigger and deeper diving lures.

Goulburn Murray water has maintenance to do on the pondage this week, so the water level will be gradually decreasing at the rate of appx 130meg a day for the next week.

However that does not mean its being drained to the river bed this year.

On Friday there was a release of 50 brown trout ex brood stock and 500 ready to catch rainbow trout, with the sudden influx of fresh water into the pondage it stirred up a few of the resident trout and the gold krocs were back in business.

The power baits, dough and mud eye were also working well for good size brown and rainbow trout.

If you’re heading to the rivers and streams nearby, lures such as the double clutch, spotted dog Rapalas, vibrax blades, and Tassie devils are all picking up trout as well.

Catch you next week
